I live in Morgantown, West Virginia. Am I required to have auto insurance if you do not have a vehicle?

According to the West Virginia law, all registered cars needs to be insured. The minimum amount of coverage required is $20,000 for one injury, per accident up to $40,000, and $10,000 for property damage. This is also referred to as 20/40/10 coverage. All car insurance policies must be issued by a insurer licensed to do business in West Virginia.

So if you have a driver’s license but do not own a vehicle you are not required to carry car insurance to maintain your drivers license. You are not required to provide proof of insurance to obtain a driver’s license in Morgantown, West Virginia but you are if you are registering a car.
